Confused obedience

May 30, 2017

Virtue is never its own enemy, for it never contradicts itself. E.g. Obedience to God in/through obedience to parents (such obedience of subordination is generally relevant from childhood on into adolescence and beyond that as common sense would guide) go together as long as what the parent wants is in line with truth and wisdom. But where allegiance to a parent demands some injustice that God Himself stands against, it’s no longer obedience (to the parent), for it is disobedience against God. E.g? A husband ill-treating a wife in collusion with his jealous mother. That neither honors the mother, nor the wife, nor God. So how would you know what God wants? Be just. That’s also the rule of obedience to authorities whether employer, ruler or others.
