Love thorns

February 2, 2017

Poor Paul, the great man he was, the amount of suffering he endured for the truth, nothing insured him from enduring the thorn in the flesh. All we know of it is it was something he hated to endure, he’d endured it already far too long, but God would have it no other way. So the poor man prayed. Thrice (apparently these were dedicated spells of prayer exclusively that he be relieved of this suffering). Maybe now with a sense of entitlement, maybe now out of despair, but to no change. And God wrapped his loving arm around the man and whispered: My grace is sufficient for you my love. Probably profoundly inviting of despair, but equally, even more of trust.
