A farcical unity

January 30, 2017

Pilate and Herod had apparently rubbed with each other. Maybe it was a political difference, or dignity scorned, or even clout exercised one over the other. But against Jesus, a good man, the two crooks united. They forgot their differences and became like ol’ chums. But I don’t think it was the rebirth of goodwill, but a mere contract (like a lot of our marriages are!): the ‘you-scratch-my-back-n-I’ll-scratch-yours’ type, almost none to do with true love, care, goodness or goodwill. But then what an evil pretext to cement old cracks on! Foreboding of more evil than good. Still the blessing of the temporary peace, fragile as it was, went all to Jesus! Through the complex web of evil and cold calculation, still how good glimmers!
