Some things are just one way. There is no going back. You take care only before you relax, for after there is only management (damage control). E.g. You’re given a precious polished gem. As long as you keep it safe and out of damage it retains its first glory. But the moment you fail to grasp its value and expose it to wear and tear, there’s only stopping further damage with a later change of mind, not a return to its first purity. We all know the well-worn proverb: there’s no gathering spilt milk. Discipline and excellence require meticulous pursuit. That’s why you teach and train a child. That’s why you exercise caution. That’s why it takes a moment to destroy what takes a lifetime to build. That’s why excellence doesn’t come like candy.
