He who has ears

January 9, 2017

I’ve always wondered what made the two on the Emmaus road merit a most cherished (even immediate/soon enough) visit by the Risen One. It does appear they made it even before the apostles themselves! Only this fits the bill: They were simply sincere, they were curious, they were willing, they were enquiring. They pursued, they persisted, they wanted to know. They weren’t done with the mystery, although no answer seemed evident, for the problem persisted! It’s like they wouldn’t give up until they’d have it. They just wanted to hear. So were the women who were fidgeting with the mystery at the Sunday morning grave. Quite illustrative of Jesus’ staple: He who has ears to hear, let him hear (Mk. 4:9).
