The curse

May 20, 2016

A vast majority of us have probably had a brush with it: a curse. Here are a few things to know about a curse: Never dare to pronounce a curse on someone who doesn’t deserve it, on one who has been fair or right in his conduct (just because you yourself have been unreasonably offended). For first it is Scripture that a curse causeless is akin to a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow. Such a curse does not come to rest (read ‘will not come true’ or ‘is of no effect’). But more because it could backfire. Balaam and Balak together tried so hard to curse Israel, only to find it backfire. For no fault had been found in Israel and God does not endorse lies. Still better, refrain from cursing altogether. For it is better to bless and not curse, and in doing that we are a striking image of our Father in Heaven who sends his sun and rain on the good and the bad.
