The foolish owner

July 8, 2014

I have often wondered: how foolish of the owner to keep sending servant after servant to be ill-treated by his wicked tenants! It says they beat one, killed another and stoned a third. Enough to infuriate me to get justice at any cost. But the owner? He sent “other servants to them, more than the first time.” Too naïve. But those incredible tenants! They treated them in the same way.

Can’t he get the message? The heights finally: “Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.”

I don’t remember a time I consciously went through that passage coming away totally bewildered by such a strange owner. He trusts to his own destruction.

Today, strangely the parallel struck me: I am the tenant.

I then figured, He isn’t foolish. The problem with Him is He is too good. He sees all His folly worthwhile if the ultimate sacrifice can drive some sense into my hard heart and head.
